Eight millimeters of rain in the provincial metropolis turned the weather pleasant after hot and muggy conditions on Wednesday. The Met office announced that monsoon currents are entering the upper parts of the country and the third spell of monsoon rains is expected to start from Thursday (today) that would produce scattered rain with dust and thundershowers in upper and central parts of the country for two to three days.
According to the Met Office, scattered rain with thundershowers is expected in upper Punjab (Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Sahiwal divisions), upper Khyber Pakhtoonkhawa (Peshawar, Hazara, Malakand and Kohat divisions) and Kashmir from Thursday toSaturday. Isolated heavy falls also likely in Northeast Punjab (Gujranwala, Lahore and Sargodha divisions).
Met office further informed that hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the Sindh and Balochistan during the period. Yesterday’s rain also submerged the low lying areas of Lahore including Allama Iqbal Road Garhi Shaho, Mcload road, northern parts of the city, cantonment courts, Badami Bagh and other places of the city. Citizens faced immense difficulties while traveling. Rain during the peak hours also disrupted the traffic flow in the various parts of the city. Criticizing the water drainage system of the city citizens asked the WASA officials to improve their performance during next monsoon spells. Relative humidity recorded in Lahore on Wednesday morning was 70 percent whereas 57 percent in the evening. 39 Celsius was the maximum temperature recorded in the city on Wednesday whereas 29 Celsius was minimum mercury level.
