PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain visited the MQM headquarters Nine Zero late on Tuesday, with some sources claiming that he had come to meet the MQM leadership with a special message from President Asif Zardari.
Addressing a joint press conference with MQM Rabita Committee members led by Farooq Sattar, Shujaat denied that the president had tasked him with conveying a message to the government’s estranged ally. He said that his visit was aimed at expressing solidarity with the victims of the recent violence in Karachi.He urged the entire political leadership of the country to visit Karachi and sit together for forming a joint strategy for law and order in the city.
The PML-Q president said that his party supported the MQM and had not voiced its support for the commissionerate system in Sindh. Sattar said the government took some undemocratic steps after the MQM opted to join the opposition benches, adding that they wanted some space to play the role of opposition in a democratic manner.
