SC moved over restored commissionerate system in Sindh

Allegedly in violation of Article 175(3) of the Constitution, the restoration of old Commissionerate System in Sindh was challenged in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
Maulvi Iqbal Haider, Chairman Awami Himayat Tahreek Pakistan challenged the enforcement of Commissionarate system under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, making the Federation of Pakistan, acting governor Sindh and secretary Local Bodies Department, Sindh as respondents. The petitioner prayed to the court to declare that the acting governor Sindh issued impugned ordinance on July 9 under which the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 1979 was restored and the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, 2001 has been repealed which is unjust, unfair, arbitrary and malafide and in violation of Article 140-A read with other Articles of the Constitution. The petitioner submitted that the enforcement of Commissionerate system was in violation of Article 175(3) read with Articles 5, 9, 14, 15, 16, 19, 25 of the constitution and the court should direct the Federation to appoint permanent governor in Sindh to prevent the failure of the constitutional machinery.
