Load shedding remained high despite rain and thunderstorm in the city on Wednesday. There were unscheduled power outages on Tuesday night and throughout Wednesday. The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) claimed that load shedding increased due to high power usage but on Wednesday, there was a decrease in temperature due to rain but there was no relief for consumers and electricity was suspended for hours. A number of areas went out of power due to rain and electricity could not be restored after two hours. Rain started at around 1pm and ended at 2pm while electricity was shut as soon as rain started and restored after 3pm.
Every part of the city including Faisal Town, Garden Town, Model Town, Township, Johar Town, the Walled City, Shadbagh, Wahdat Road and Muslim Town remained powerless for many hours after rain. Consumers said that LESCO has failed to facilitate them and always gives lame excuses for power failures. “There was forced load shedding on Tuesday night and when I called the LESCO office, they told me that load shedding has increased due to increase in the load while on Wednesday, I was informed by LESCO that rain has damaged transmission lines and electricity was cut,” consumer Saad Farooq of Johar Town said adding that LESCO has excuses for every failure and never facilitates consumers.
