After ten long years, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK)’s logo from official documents has been removed, as the Sindh government notified the jurisdictions of Karachi’s five districts in order to ‘ensure effective administration and facilitate masses.’ The notification issued in this regard on Tuesday carried the logo of the Sindh government instead of the CDGK, as was the practice during the past ten years.
Meanwhile, the jurisdictions of the five old districts were determined in the first-ever meeting of newly-nominated Karachi Commissioner Mohammad Hussain Syed with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Karachi’s five districts and municipal services’ officials, sources in the Commissioner Office told Pakistan Today. The meeting was attended by DC East Shaukat Hussain Jokhio, DC West Ghanwar Leghari, DC South Jamal Mustafa Qazi, DC Central Matanat Ali Khan and DC Malir Qazi Jan Muhammad.
The District South of Karachi would consist of Saddar, Lyari and former Jamshed Town; District Central would include Liaquatabad, North Karachi, Gulberg and North Nazimabad; District Malir would comprise Malir, Gadap and areas under the Ghazi Brohi union council previously and Jafar-e-Tayyar Society; District East includes Shah Faisal, Landhi, Gulshan, Korangi and some parts of Malir; while the District West will consist of areas of Baldia, SITE, Gadap and Orangi, the sources added.
The offices of the DCs and district municipal corporations are being established at their old locations, where they existed in 2001. The commissioner directed all the DCs and municipal officers that restoration of law and order was the top priority as all affairs were related to the security situation. The officials were also instructed to pay special attention in dealing with municipal affairs especially cleaning and sanitation, lifting and disposal of garbage to landfill sites and preparation for monsoon season.
Emergency services, fire brigades and medical institutions shall carry on working as usual and the municipal officers should give final shapes to the arrangements for Shab-e-Baraat. Syed directed the officers that all public complaints be addressed on priority basis and mutual coordination with municipal officers ensured during monsoon. Solid waste management, fire brigade, health and other essential services department officers should fulfill their duties so that the people could be saved from trouble.
The DCs should begin cleanliness work from today in their respective districts and also initiate fumigation campaigns especially in katchi abadies and around storm water drains. The officers were instructed to ensure cleaning in city graveyards on the eve of Shab-e-Baraat; shift all garbage to landfill sites; and remove wall chalking and banners. The Commissioner also issued directives for road carpeting especially at those places where trenches and cracks had developed.
Talking to media representatives on the occasion, the Karachi Commissioner said that apart from an account for the employees’ salary, another operational account was also available in the 2011-2012 Budget, which could be used for necessary/emergency works.
Agha Siraj now available at Nazim House
KARACHI – After the restoration of commissionerate system in Sindh after almost ten years, the Sindh government has formally taken over the Nazim House – the official residence of the District Government Karachi (CDGK)’s City Nazim – located on the Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi Road, Pakistan Today has learnt.
On March 2, 2010, former City Nazim Mustafa Kamal had handed over his official residence and vehicles to then newly-appointed CDGK Administrator, Fazlur Rehman. All belongings of the Nazim House were also handed over to the administrator. After the issuance of a notification for restoring commissionerate system recently, the Sindh government got the Nazim House vacated in just two days.
Within hours after the announcement, the administrator signboard was replaced with a new nameplate of the Local Government minister along with the deployment of heavy contingents of law enforcement personnel. According to sources, Sindh Local Government Minister Agha Siraj Durrani would use the official residence for personal use besides a minister’s camp office has also been established there.
