‘TTP militant among 11 criminals arrested’

The city police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested 11 alleged terrorists, including an important member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)-Swat, from different areas of the city. Crime Investigation Department (CID) SSP Chaudhry Aslam, while speaking at a press conference in the CID head office, said a CID police team had arrested seven suspects involved in killings and carrying out attacks on security forces.
One of the alleged militant arrested from Ittehad Town was identified as Ali Imran alias Imran Shah and a TT pistol was recovered from his possession. The suspect has confessed that he had links with the TTP-Swat and had attacked the security forces personnel in Swat. In a separate raid in the Khadda Market, Lyari, the CID police arrested two suspects allegedly associated with the Lyari gang war’s notorious Arshad Papoo group.
They were later identified as Sohail Abro and Sohail Lakha alias Siraj Udin, who were arrested after a brief encounter. “Both terrorists are associated with the Arshad Papoo Group, an important figure of the Lyari gang war. Four Kalashnikovs, two repeaters, 10 hand grenades, one rifle 7mm and two TT pistols besides live bullets were recovered from their possession,” said Aslam, adding that over a dozen cases are registered against the culprits in different police stations of the city.
Another team of the CID police raided the truck terminal at Mauripur and arrested four suspects identified as Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Nadeem, Chand and Mohammad Asif while recovering four TT pistols and huge amount of cash from them. They had been wanted in different criminal cases, said the CID SSP. Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the police claimed arresting four members of a gang of criminals involved in looting containers meant for supply to NATO forces fighting insurgents in Afghanistan.
Addressing the media at a press conference in his office, DSP Wasif Qureshi said the suspects identified as Mohammad Sabir, Muneer Ahmed and Shahid Ali were arrested near Port Qasim on a tip off and bags of export quality rice recovered from their possession. In another raid, the police arrested Muhammad Ahmed and Sona Khan alias Khadim Hussain Jamali from the Manghopir area and recovered 180 cartons of automobile oil.
Other members of the group were identified as Ali Hassan Brohi, Imam Din Brohi, Idrees Naich, Sikandar Chandio, Salam alia Salamo, Deedar Mirani, Raheem Jamali, Sadaruddin and Khadim Hussain. Qureshi added that the group was also involved in robbing containers within the jurisdictions of Punjab and Balochistan provinces.
