DCOs set to take charge as five divisions’ commissioners

Restoring the old status of Karachi and Hyderabad, the Sindh government has assigned the duties of commissioners to the former district coordination officers (DCOs) of the five divisional headquarters to run the matters of the newly created divisions, Pakistan Today has learnt.
Sources said that the erstwhile Revenue executive district officers (EDOs) of Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur and Mirpurkhas would work as collectors/deputy commissioners for their respective districts.
According to a notification, for the Karachi Division, Matanat Ali was appointed as the deputy commissioner for the Central district; Kanwar Leghari as deputy commissioner West; Jamal Mustafa Qazi as the South district deputy commissioner while Mushtaq Ahmed and Jan Mohammad Qazi are set to assume charges as deputy commissioners in East and Malir districts, respectively.
Besides, the DCOs of some 15 districts would be collectors/deputy commissioners with immediate effect.
The status of Karachi’s five districts would be restored to that of August 13, 2001, whereas the notification of abolishing the city’s old status, issued on August 14, 2001, has been cancelled.
Moreover, the notification aimed at dividing Hyderabad into four districts, issued on April 4, 2005, has also been cancelled; hence, the old status of the second largest city of Sindh has been restored.
In this regard, the Sindh chief secretary has issued notification No SOI(SGA&CD)-6/2/2011 regarding appointment of commissioners.
With the approval of the competent authority, the erstwhile DCOs of Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur and Mirpurkhas would act as commissioners for the newly created divisions with immediate effect and until further orders, said a notification available with Pakistan Today.
Sources disclosed that Muhammad Hussain Syed would be the commissioner for Karachi, Aftab Ahmed Khatri for Hyderabad, Ghulam Hussain Memon for Mirpurkhas, Aleem Lashari for Larkana and Inamullah Dharejo for Sukkur.
With the approval of the competent authority, the erstwhile Revenue EDOs of Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur and Mirpurkhas would act as collectors/deputy commissioners for their respective districts with immediate effect and until further orders, said another notification.
A yet another notification said that the DCOs of the following districts would act as collectors/deputy commissioners for their respective districts with immediate effect and until further orders.
The districts include Sanghar, Umerkot, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Badin, Dadu, Jacobabad, Jamshoro, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushero Feroze, Tharparkar-Mithi, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Kashmore-Kandhkot and Thatta.
The issue of Qambar-Shahdadkot district would be shortly resolved by President Asif Ali Zardari, the sources said.
