Coalition partners of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Monday cautioned President Asif Zardari to handle the Karachi situation prudently. In separate meetings at the Presidency, leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and the Awami National Party (ANP) discussed the volatile situation in the financial hub of the country and advised the president to take wise decisions for restoring peace to the city.
PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi urged Zardari to handle the issues with the MQM wisely, saying any wrong and uncalculated decision could risk peace in the economic hub of the country, a source told Pakistan Today. “Shujaat assured President Zardari that his party would stand by the PPP through thick or thin.
However, the coalition matters should be handled with care as any emotional and immature handling may jeopardise the democratic process,” he added. The source said that Elahi also discussed the matter of the unjust media trial of his son Moonis Elahi, saying his party would use all the channels to establish the factual position on the matter, as Moonis had been dragged into the scam at the behest of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif. Earlier in the day, Zardari told an ANP delegation that the government was committed to safeguarding the life and property of all citizens at every cost as it was the prime responsibility of every democratic setup.
The seven-member delegation comprised Senator Zahid Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, provincial minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Jamila Gillani MNA, Shahi Syed, Lala Ajab Khan and Bashir Jan.Zahid Khan told Pakistan Today they had discussed the law and order situation in Karachi, the overall political developments and talks with the coalition partners in detail with Zardari. He said the president promised immediate action on their proposals to use his influence and ask the government to tackle the mess created by the KESC and pay monetary compensation to the families who had lost their family members in the recent riots in Karachi.
