‘Reconciliation but no humiliation’

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) wants to follow the party’s reconciliation policy but will not tolerate humiliation and insulting remarks or behavior.
This was expressed at a high level meeting of the PPP-Karachi Division held in the Sindh Chief Minister’s House on Monday. The meeting was presided over by Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik and attended by elected representatives and office bearers of the PPP-Karachi chapter.
It was decided in the meeting that audits will be conducted for the developmental funds issued for Karachi during the past 5 years while it was demanded of the government that masterminds behind the killers of innocent people in the city of Karachi be exposed publicly. It was also decided in the meeting that the PPP-Karachi will play its role voluntarily to restore peace in the city
“The present government is following the reconciliation policy of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and does not want to pick a fight with anyone. The policy will continue but it does not mean that the PPP will compromise on its respect and no one will be allowed to humiliate or insult the party,” said Malik, while addressing the participants of the meeting. “Some people do not want the PPP to complete its tenure but these conspiracies will not succeed.”
He said that he had arrived in Karachi to conduct the meeting on President Asif Ali Zardari’s orders.
The Interior Minister said the present government will not tolerate criminals and strong action will be taken against anti-social elements for restoration of complete peace in the city. He, however, added that cooperation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and other political and religious parties was necessary to restore peace in Karachi.
He made it clear that action will be taken against criminals, target killers and extortionists wherever they were in the city. “As Lyari is the hub of PPP, there is a need to restore peace in the area.”
