The present day national picture shows a grim situation and it seems as the system of this ill-fated country is running without any state machinery. The highly ill-managed system tells that the ruling lot has nothing to do with the problems and troubles of a commoner.
The recent showdown in Mianwali district of Punjab had many lessons if the federal as well as provincial ruling elite had bothered to learn. Instead of pondering over the reasons that resulted in the public versus district administration encounter and resolving them, the provincial government thought it better to declare Mianwali as a ‘load-shedding free district’.
Lahore is the provincial capital of Punjab and if I am not wrong it’s a ‘city’ too. But the unscheduled electricity load-shedding in the urban areas of the city has made the life of a common man really miserable. Over 16 hours’ of load-shedding is a routine and no schedule has been announced for this purpose.
LESCO helpline 118 is good for nothing because the staff sitting there never knows the reasons or schedule of load-shedding.
Our ruling elite have never gone through what a commoner experiences on everyday basis. The Mianwali episode can become a serial if the rulers did not change their ways to take up and resolve national issues. Instead of paving ways for a greater showdown with people across the country, the federal and provincial governments should wake up and show seriousness towards public problems.
