This is with reference to a decision by the PIA Board of Directors to discontinue serving hot meals on PIA domestic flights on excuse of flight safety. Flight safety in PIA is being compromised not by serving hot meals to passengers, but by the massive pilferages and corruption, which force the cash starved airline to compromise on maintenance of their aircraft. Hot meals are not served by low cost bargain airlines to save money and also to operate flights with minimum cabin crew required for emergency evacuation. These airlines offer lesser fares to passengers, which has not been done by our national airline.
PIA has been plagued by pilferages in the flight kitchen, which includes many executives who are party to such misdeeds. While this will save millions on domestic flights, nothing has been done about the massive pilferages involved in catering contract awarded to the family of PIA’s former MD which caters to European and US flights. PIA Board of Directors and its management needs to be changed and replaced not by cronies but qualified men of integrity.
Why is the Board of Directors silent when PIA appoints the most incompetent and unqualified men for appointment as directors and deputy managing directors? The whole world watched the circus act of a PIA executive dancing like a clown with a glass of whiskey placed on his head on Youtube and telecast by private TV channels. This act was unbecoming of an executive of the national airline.
