Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said that the MQM always stood shoulder to shoulder with the PPP in all hardships and any apprehension on the former ally’s part could be resolved through negotiations.
He was talking to reporters in Karachi on Monday. Malik said the government would not allow anybody to destroy the peace of Karachi and the elements involved in subversive activities would be dealt with iron hands, irrespective of their political affiliation. He said the telephones of Nine-Zero were disconnected due to some technical fault.
“The PTCL is a private organisation and the government has nothing to do with the issue. If MQM wants to investigate the matter, they can send their engineers,” Malik said.
“The government would never use any jarring tactics. The MQM and PPP remained good friends in the past and unity among both parties is imperative for restoration of peace in Karachi. Our doors are still open for them. The MQM should resolve all issue through dialogue,” the interior minister added.
He said the entire nation had been aggrieved over the situation in Karachi.
Malik said 500 FC personnel had been directed to take stern action against miscreants, adding that the people and media should also cooperate with the law enforcement agencies to curb violence.
To a question about threat given by Zulfiqar Mirza to a reporter, Malik said everyone should respect each other.
