I was coming back home when I approached a crowd gossiping about the robberies of last night. This news was not a surprise as we are used to news of bomb blasts, robberies, murders, kidnapping and suicides.
Inflation, unemployment, lawlessness, and uncertainty naturally give birth to such heinous crimes. Inflation rate in Pakistan has broken all previous records. The prices of daily necessities has increased from 600 to 700 percent and still increasing.
Unemployment rate is also in a race with the inflation rate, and seems to be taking a lead. Moreover, due to shortage of gas and electricity, factories and mills switched their workers from monthly to daily wages, and some daily to hourly basis. Thousands of unemployed graduates are now prone to robberies and suicide.
The government has added fuel to the fire by showing the door to thousands of unemployed internees of national internship program, who not only got financial relief, engaged in acquiring additional knowledge, real work experience, but also facilitated various government organisations, having shortage of officials in various cadres.
I request the CM Punjab to take immediate action regarding this issue and allow this internship.
