Announcing a series of weekend sit-in protests in front of the Parliament House and demonstrations in other parts of Islamabad from the last week of July as part of his ‘Remove the Government Campaign’, Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday said that the president and the prime minister should be held in contempt of court for obstructing the implementation of Supreme Court judgments.
He was addressing a press conference after his party’s Central Executive Committee meeting. He said that the present government was causing irreparable damage to the country’ economy and was protecting criminals. “The president and the prime minister should be held in contempt of court,” Imran said.
Answering a question about Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s grand alliance initiative, Imran Khan said it was a “grand fraud alliance.” “If the PML-N is serious, it should begin by resigning from the parliament and the Punjab government,” Imran Khan said, adding how the PML-N, which supported the present NRO manufactured government, could suddenly become the saviour of the country.
Justifying his demand for neutral caretaker setup in the country, Imran Khan added that massive rigging in the AJK elections and bye-elections was a proof that the general elections under a PPP caretaker government could not be free and fair. “There will be bloodshed if elections are held under PPP so the PTI intends to intensify its ‘Remove the Government Campaign’ and expects the Supreme Court to take decisive action to remove the present destructive government and install a truly neutral caretaker setup,” Khan said, adding that only a neutral caretaker government could hold free and fair elections under an independent election commission and transparent Nadra based electoral rolls.
Meanwhile, announcing the decisions of his party’s CEC, Imran Khan said that his party would hold series of weekend sit-in protests (Dharna) in front of the Parliament House from last week of July and continue during Ramadan. He also added that exact date for the commencement of the weekend series of sit-in protests would be announced soon. Imran Khan also added that a public meeting would be held in Faisalabad on July 24, following the series of protest demonstrations in Islamabad.
