Vegetable prices increased at Sunday Bazaars of the city while rainwater made the bazaars filthy and dirty, causing troubles for customers. Prices of potatoes, ginger, tomatoes, peas, spinach and onion increased while prices of garlic and lemon and ladyfinger decreased. In fruits, prices of apple and mango increased. Rains have hit the city since Friday and a number of bazaars were flooded with rainwater, which could not be cleared until now.
Vendors said that they faced problems in setting up stalls while customers said that they could not walk in the bazaars due to accumulation of water. Sunday Bazaars at Green Town, Johar Town, Wahdat Road and Shalimar are set in open grounds, where water accumulated.
“I faced problems in shopping, as rainwater caused disturbance in walking,” housewife Sonia Imran said adding that the Sunday Bazaar administration was least bothered to clear rainwater. Vendor Mobeen Nisar at the Green Town Sunday Bazaar said that he had to face problems in setting up a stall. “I have to look for a space where there is no water and my fellows also faced this problem,” he added.
Customers criticised the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) for failing to control chicken prices. “The CDGL should check chicken prices, which are increasing without any reason,” customer Allah Yar Khan said adding that the poultry industry should not rob the people by fixing high prices.
