Planning Commission (PC) officials said on Sunday that Rs 18 billion has been allocated in the federal budget 2011-12 for construction of the Basha dam, while Rs 42 billion are needed to acquire land for the dam’s construction. Addressing participants of the seven day training programme of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) information secretaries, they said the dam will cost Rs 1.0 trillion and will help generate around 4500MW of electricity. Furthermore, they claimed hat the former president Pervez Musharraf had only inaugurated the Basha project on paper and no practical steps had been taken by his government.
