“I neither have Alladin’s lamp nor any magic wand to make the situation in Karachi better within seconds. It will take time and people will have to wait. Karachi will become a City of Lights again,” said newly-appointed Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan.
While addressing journalists at a press conference in the Police headquarters, Wasan said the city’s law and order situation is worsening and it would take time to improve.
He was of the view that political parties are playing a number game by claiming the innocent persons being killed in violence in Karachi as their activists. “It is a trend in Karachi that innocent persons who are killed in exchanges of fire between criminal groups are claimed to be their activists by the political parties,” he said.
The law enforcement agencies (LEAs) are performing their duties and are capable of countering terrorism in the city while the public should trust the LEA personnel and provide full support to them, as curbing terrorism in Karachi is not an easy task.
“It is not easy to arrest the target killers and it will take time but the situation will be in control soon. The law enforcers will take action without any discrimination.”
Since January, 189 people have fallen victim to targeted killings. Seventy-seven people have been killed during the past four days in the city while law enforcers have arrested 157 criminals from different areas and also recovered weapons from them. Criminals will be behind the bars soon. Nobody will be permitted to take the law in his hands and will be dealt with iron hands.
“My appointment has been made at a time when the situation in the city is worsening. It is evident that Karachi is being destroyed. There will be no need for Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s visit on this issue next time. I will visit the troubled areas of the city and meet the people there.
“All the political parties would be taken into confidence and I will personally visit the offices of different political parties to maintain the law and order situation in the city,” said Wasan.
The Home Minister also accepted the presence of Taliban in Karachi. “Taliban are present in different areas and are responsible for the worsening situation in the city,” he said, adding that the government is ready to combat with the terrorists.
