President Asif Zardari is likely to announce an independent and non-political personality as the new governor within the next two weeks to run the affairs of Sindh. According some reliable sources, the top leadership has indicated to accept the resignation of Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and may request Burney to fill the slot. They say former federal minister for human rights and renowned activist Ansar Burney is so far the most probable candidate for the governorship. Burney is the recipient, the first in the history of Pakistan in the field of human rights, of ‘Sitar-e-Imtiaz’. In 2005 the US State Department also declared him as the international human rights ‘HERO’ for his commendable work against human trafficking. That is the reason why Burney is held in high esteem both in the country and abroad while he also enjoys respect among the political parties.
