A writ petition has been filed in the court of Kasur sessions judge against the imposition of toll tax on the Ferozpur Road near Mustafabad canal. Lawyer Yasin Farrukh Kamboh who filed the petition after the protest of transporters, employees and students against the toll tax, stated in the plea that the Punjab government was collecting toll tax without any prior notice to the public and without taking the local government and transporters into confidence. He further stated that the toll tax receipts were issued to the vans in the name of a private company without signatures of any government officer. Transporters’ union President Haji Ahmed Zaki said the Punjab government dropped a toll tax bomb on the people of Kasur by using the Lahore-Kasur road which was constructed by the Pervaiz Elahi government. He added that the road project was started by the PML-Q government with the efforts of former foreign minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri for the development and progress of the locals, assuring that no tax would be imposed for using the road. The toll tax imposed by the Shahbaz Sharif government was irking the locals, he further said and added that transporters, employees and students strongly condemned the toll tax. He said vans’ owners were already paying Rs 600 per van daily in the name of stand fees, Steel Bagh fees and Chungi Amar Sidhu toll tax and now two times Mustafabad toll tax. The transporters had threatened a wheel jam strike if the government did not withdraw the new forcibly imposed toll tax.
