Committee formed to enforce Kharotabad tribunal’s proposals

A committee was constituted on Friday by the Balochistan Inspector General (IG) of Police Rao Ameen Hashim for the implementation of recommendations made by the inquiry tribunal on the Kharotabad incident.
Balochistan Constabulary Commandant Bashir Mehman will be heading the committee, while Special Branch DIG Rehmatullah Niazai, DIG Investigation Mian Maqbool and the IG (Legal) will be the members.
The committee is expected to submit its report to the Balochistan IG within the next two or three days.
A senior police officer said all recommendations of the tribunal would be implemented in letter and spirit.
The tribunal had declared that all five Chechens killed in the incident had association with militant or armed groups, but were unarmed at the time of being killed by police and Frontier Corps personnel on May 17.
The tribunal also recommended action against all those responsible for using unnecessary force to kill the unarmed people, observing that valuable information could have been obtained if the five foreigners had been captured alive.
Chief Minister Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani had appointed the tribunal after conflicting and controversial reports about the killing. The tribunal was headed by Balochistan High Court Justice Hashim Kakar.
