Promotion of private clinics and hospitals by doctors sitting in government hospitals will not be tolerated and action will be taken against those paramedics who lure patients of government hospitals for private treatment, Punjab Health Secretary Jahanzeb Khan said on Saturday.
He was chairing a meeting to review flood arrangements and performance of district and tehsil headquarter hospitals, RHCs and BHUs of Rajanpur. The secretary said that medical superintendents should take solid steps to control unnecessary expenditures and protect government property as their own. The meeting reviewed in detail progress of health sector development schemes, arrangements for malaria and dengue fever control and polio coverage. Jahanzeb expressed displeasure over the slow process of arrangements for fogging and anti-mosquito spray to control malaria and dengue fever and directed officers that all arrangements must be completed without any further delay, as rains have already started.He urged efficient use of funds, timely payment of utility bills and directed officers that special steps should also be taken for saving energy. The secretary said that the EDO Health as the district health manager was fully responsible for performance of hospitals and rural health centres of the district concerned and he will be held responsible for poor performance. Jahanzeb directed officers that medical superintendents of government hospitals should ensure punctuality and discipline. He said that rude attitude of doctors and paramedics with patients or their attendants will not be tolerated. The secretary directed officers that treatment facilities in hospitals should be improved and special attention paid on quality of services.
