Reconciling to what?

‘Reconciliation’ has become one of the gambits in the politics of Pakistan and our politicians (and our President who is supposed to be apolitical foremost) have become its more wily operators. While one sees the expediency and long term wisdom in not destabilising a nascent system, rubbishing one’s principles at the drop of a hat cannot be the ‘beauty of democracy’.

Our politicians should realise that while these dalliances are all part of the political process, there should be a balance between compromising on the means for the end. If done too frequently, this may become the accepted norm in Pakistani politics and this make and break haggle-politics can’t be good and is inherently unstable.
