Take action regardless of political backing, orders CM

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, who also holds the Home Department portfolio, directed the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) on Wednesday to take stern action against criminals involved in killings in Karachi ‘without keeping their affiliations in view.’ He issued these orders while chairing a meeting on the prevailing law and order situation at the Chief Minister’s House, where Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbas, Inspector General of Police Wajid Ali Durrani, Rangers Sindh Acting Director General Brig Zafar Iqbal, Home Additional Chief Secretary Waseem Ahmed and Karachi Capital City Police Officer Saud Mirza were also present.
According to an official handout, the chief minister took serious notice of the deteriorating law and order situation in the city and directed the officials that police, Rangers and other LEAs should not allow any miscreant to exploit the situation and that stern and even-handed action initiated against criminals without keeping in view their political affiliations.
Shah also directed the LEA personnel to keep vigilance and evolve prompt measures to curb criminal activities and asked them to remain on alert to avoid any mishap; as such incidents have the potential of resulting in widespread trouble. The LEAs should respond and control the situation before it has wide-ranging implications. The police should concentrate in arresting those involved and planning to disturb peace and harmony.
With regard to the forthcoming AJK elections, the chief minister directed that no one should be allowed to take law in their hands and the elections held in a peaceful manner and all out efforts be made to curb crimes from the province particularly Karachi. The police and other LEAs should strictly maintain law and order during the elections and the leaders of various political parties were urged to play their positive roles in showing restraint and rein their political workers from indulging in any disturbance.
Earlier, the LEA officials presented a detailed briefing about the situation prevailing in the city and the measures being adopted for the control and maintenance of law and order.
