Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LESCO) sudden closure of electricity has damaged electrical appliances of consumers, who consecutively for the second day witnessed long hours of load shedding on Thursday.
The hide and seek of electricity continued in the city leaving people in misery and damaging electrical appliances. There have been closures of 10 to 14 hours of electricity in the city with urban areas facing 10 hours of power outages while rural areas 14 hours of closure. Major grid stations were closed for consecutive two hours leaving a majority of the city without power. Electricity was closed for two hours after every one hour. Besides, long hours of load shedding, there were closures of five to ten minutes as well.
All areas of the city including Model Town, Shadman, Township, Faisal Town, Wahdat Road, Cantt, Gulberg and the Walled City witnessed long hours of unscheduled load shedding. Consumers said that LESCO is damaging their home appliances repeated outages. “LESCO officials switch on electricity for a second and then switch it off, my deep freezer went out of order because of this,” housewife Naureen Tariq said. Another consumer Amir Latif said that his air conditioner went out of order due to continuous fluctuation.
“I have to spend Rs 4,000 for repairing my air conditioner,” he said adding that after paying huge bills, LESCO in return, destroys electrical appliances. “We are paying huge electricity bills and in return getting load shedding,” he lamented. According to Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), power shortfall crossed 5,000MW. Demand remained 18,213MW while generation was only 13,043MW.
