Expressing satisfaction over the war on terror in Pakistan, US Ambassador Cameron Munter on Thursday called it a victory for the US, saying the end to terrorism was essential for lasting peace.
Addressing a farewell ceremony farewell in honour of outgoing acting consul general in Peshawar, Munter praised the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for resisting militancy and terrorism, saying the people of the area had suffered a lot by terrorism and deserve peace and stability.
Marie Richards, who assumed the assignments as the consul general in Peshawar, has earlier served the US Consulate in Karachi.
Munter reaffirmed the US stance on the war on terror and said friendships and association with Pakistan would be further promoted.
He also drew the participant’s attentions towards the US involvement in development and capacity building projects in Pakistan, especially training projects for media personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Tribal Areas.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister Bashir Bilour welcomed the new US consul general and assured her of the government’s support.
Outgoing acting consul general Constance Arvis and Consul General Maria Richards also addressed the ceremony.
