ECP directs parties to submit financial statements

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday directed the heads of all political parties to submit the details of their parties’ assets, accounts and annual income and expenses before August 29.
“The Election Commission has reminded the political parties that in terms of Article 13 of the Political Parties Order, 2002, they have to file with EC their statement of accounts for financial year, 2010-2011 on or before August 29,” said a press release issued here on Thursday by ECP.
It may be recalled that Article 13 of the political parties Order, 2002 provides that every Political Party shall submit to the EC within sixty days from the close of each financial year, a consolidated statement of accounts of the party, duly audited by a charted accountant with details of annual income and expenses, source of funding and assets and liabilities.
“As per provisions of rule 11 of the Political Parties Rules, 2002, statement received through post, fax, courier service or any other mode is not entertain- able,” it added.
The statement of accounts of the party is required to be accompanied by a certificate signed by the party leader stating that no funds from any source prohibited under Political Parties Order, 2002, were received by the party; and that the statement contains an accurate financial position of the party.
