Turkish team praises Jinnah Hospital’s waste management programme

A team of hospital waste management experts from Turkey visited Jinnah Hospital , Lahore on Tuesday to inspect and assess the waste management facilities at the hospital.
Orhan Yalmaz and Atilla Cap from the Instanbul Muncipal Corporation along with senior members of the Lahore Waste Management Company were taken on an extensive tour of Jinnah Hospital and were introduced to various waste management activities undertaken by the hospital administration. The members of the Turkish delegation praised the initiatives taken to process waste in a safe and hygienic manner.
They praised the high standards of proper segregation and collection of hospital waste and offered their technical assistance for any proposed up-gradation of the system.
Earlier Jinnah Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Afzal Shaheen briefed the visitors regarding the comprehensive hospital waste management plan. He told the visitors that a sizable quantity of infectious and general waste was generated at the hospital which was segregated according to the Environmental Protection Agency’s rules and despatched.
The Allama Iqbal Medical College and Jinnah Hospital, Lahore principal had provided guidelines to the hospital administration regarding a workable hospital waste management programme. The senior management of the Lahore Solid Waste Management Company expressed a desire to collaborate with the hospital administration in a bid to prepare an elaborate integrated waste management plan.
