The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab Tuesday demanded that Azad Jammu Kashmir Legislative Assembly election for LA-37 Valley II scheduled on July 10 in the provincial capital should be held under the supervision of Rangers.
PPP Punjab General-Secretary Samiullah Khan during a joint press conference at the residence of PPP candidate Ghulam Mohiyudin Dewan accused the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) of rigging and said the PML-N leaders and workers backed by police on June 26 harassed the PPP activists to force them stay at home on the polling day.
Sami said the so-called champions of democracy had been exposed by their hooliganism, adding that the Sharif brothers were the remnants of a dictator, General Ziaul Haq, and could not afford democratic system.
He alleged that despite using state machinery, the Punjab government had failed miserably to get the desired results.
While warning the police and other law enforcing agencies to refrain from becoming a party, he said the PPP believed in peaceful election but would respond to the PML-N’s rough tactics in the same coin.
Speaking on the occasion, Dewan said during the violence on June 26 in Lahore, the IGP and the CCPO were involved in the torture and pre-poll rigging.
He also showed some bogus votes with ID cards which were polled on June 26 by PML-N activists and said a fake case was registered against him with the Ravi Road Police Station to create hurdle in his way to contest polls.
