The Darakhshan police have refused to register a First Information Report (FIR) of the case of a maid’s manhandling at the hands of her female employer.
Kausar, who gave only her first name and did not want her picture taken for fear of reprisal, said that she was attacked by Farah Shahid Sethi at house No 136/1 located on the Khayaban-e-Shujaat Road.
“I was in the garden of the house when the water tanker arrived. The driver called the lady of the house to move her car from the driveway because that is where the water tank is,” Kausar said.
“The next thing I remember is that Mrs Sethi came outside shouting at me and asking me why I couldn’t move the car,” Kausar added.
Sethi beat up Kausar and left her with wounds on the face, including a cut along the lower lip as well as black and blue bruises around the eyes.
“Mrs Sethi was about to hit my head with a flower pot, but the driver stopped her,” Kausar said, adding that the driver as a witness had narrated the incident to the police, but the law enforcers have failed to take any action even after the passage of roughly a week.
The Darakhshan police had allowed Kausar to file a complaint, but they did not ask for anything else.
“When I asked for justice by registering an FIR or at least obtaining an apology from my attacker, the police said that they did not have time for such silly cases,” Kausar said.
There has been no word from the Darakhshan police, either from the inspectors or Station House Officer Shahzada Saleem, regarding the incident.
A police constable said, “Mrs Sethi lives with a daughter, a son and an estranged husband. If the driver had not intervened that day, we would have had to file a murder case against the woman.”
He said that Sethi has been blowing her own trumpet after she found out that not even the police have been able to do anything for the maid.
Sethi’s neighbours said that had the situation been the other way around, the maid would have had to serve jail time.
