Pakistan cricket’s chief selector Mohsin Hasan Khan believes that the future of the Pakistan cricket is secure and the PCB would soon fill the opening pair slot with specialised players. Talking to journalists here at the Gaddafi Stadium, Mohsin said that although Pakistan was struggling to find a proper opening pair yet there are several players who would serve the purpose and all they need is proper grooming.
“It’s a specialised job and takes time to find a proper pair. If we look at the past there has always been a gap after every good opening pair like Majid Khan and Sadiq Mohammad, myself and Mudassar Nazar, Aamer Sohail and Saeed Anwar left. But I feel the camp training launched by the PCB would surely fulfil the requirements,” he added. “The camp is a good step forward which would help remove the flaws of the players. They are carrying minor faults in their approach and the camp would help them remove those,” he said.
He further informed that the camp would be held in two phases in which first batsmen and later bowlers would be groomed. He said that special efforts would be made to make the players mentally strong so that they could play on wickets that carry bounce and variation. “The main objective would be to end the self-centred approach of the players and their priority should be Pakistan.
Their every effort should be for the country,” he added. “Their grooming and education are the main issues for us,” said he. “Pakistan cricket has suffered a lot for over the last couple of years and after all that had happened in the past, the PCB has made its working based on discipline,” said he. The chief selector further added that the list of players for central contract has been given to the PCB which will announce the new contractees after reviewing their performances.
“No player is above the law and for selection a players should give performance,” he added. He also gave the examples of Younus Khan, Fawad Alam, Imran Farhat. Mohsin said that the camp training of the national team for Zimbabwe series will start after consultation with chief coach Waqar YOunis, who is returning on July 7.
