This current political turmoil defies logic, for the PPP government has done its utmost to instill confidence in the minds of its political allies, including the MQM. The government has stood fast in its resolve to foster meaningful partnerships. The need of the hour is to protect Pakistan’s national interests and allow the democratic system to flourish unencumbered.
The PPP is known to have always upheld the independence of state institutions, including the judiciary. The political leaders, who state otherwise, do so to gain political mileage and impress their voters. The current call for an independent Election Commission holds no water as the present government has ensured that the Election Commission runs independently without interference.
As elections near, some political forces have turned against the PPP government simply to increase their vote bank. They should realise that the voters will not be taken in by this duplicity. All parties should be focusing on attaining a conducive environment for a peaceful transition to the next tenure of a democratic government. For that is what Pakistan needs.
