The Local Taxes Department of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK)’s Revenue Group of Offices has achieved a new record of recovery during the fiscal year 2010-2011.
The department recovered a record amount of Rs 627.3 million, surpassing its own previous record of recovering Rs 537 million in the fiscal year 2009-2010. It must be noted here that the Local Taxes Department recovers two kinds of fee, which is charged parking fee and advertisement fee. The charged parking fee is presently being collected at 22 locations across the city, out of which 16 are on contract.
After an amendment in the CDGK Advertisement Bye-Laws 2003 and the preparation of maps and computerised data of the hoardings, the recovery from advertisements has increased every year. In 2006-2007, Rs 337.4 million were recovered, whereas in 2007-2008, Local Taxes officials recovered Rs 400.6 million and Rs 491.5 million in 2008-2009. Local Taxes Executive Director Rehan Khan said that joint efforts and hard work of the department’s officials had made this achievement possible.
