Government intends to privatise all state-owned entities, says minister

Minister for Privatisation Ghous Bux Khan Mahar has said that the government intends to privatise all state owned entities including those in the energy sector. He said this while talking to a Japanese delegation accompanied by Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi OE here on Wednesday.
The minister urged the need for increasing the Japanese private sector investment as the future of every country’s economy belonged to the private sector, which almost always performed well and played an effective and vital role in the economy. He said that there was a vast scope for Japanese private sector to invest in the energy sector of Pakistan.
Japanese envoy said that law and order situation in Pakistan was much better than what was portrayed in international media. He assured the minister that he would make all efforts to attract more Japanese investors to promote the existing economic relations between the two countries.
The government is in the process of reforming and reconstructing state owned entities and their boards of governors to get these entities out of losses.
There are 22 entities on the privatisation list including power sector entities which were Peshawar Electric Supply Company Limited (PESCO), Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), National Power Construction Corporation, Faisalabad Electric Supply Company Limited (FESCO), Jamshoro Power Company Limited (JPCL), and Kot Addu Power Company Limited (KAPCO).
