The residents of the localities adjacent to the Gharo Grid Station have installed an illegal power supply system and are insisting that the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) energise it.
When the KESC refused, the culprits interrupted power supply to the Gharo Water Pumping Station, which in turn disturbed water supply to Karachi.
The culprits claim that they have strong political backing and own an unauthorised pole-mounted transformer, commonly known as PMT, as well as a cable network.
After installing the illegal power supply system, the culprits attempted to obtain electricity from KESC’s main transmission lines.
The culprits also pulled down some high-tension spans, causing the Gharo Water Pumping Station feeder to trip.
The KESC has demanded the government to intervene in this matter and sought protection from the law enforcement agencies.
