Karachi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Muhammad Hussain Syed on Tuesday said that developmental work on Lyari Expressway’s Mangopir Interchange will be initiated within a week.
Addressing the participants of a meeting at the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) head office at Civic Centre on Tuesday, he said the city government will arrange bridge financing for this project while the affected people will get alternate plots under the encroachment package.
The meeting was attended by Revenue Additional EDO Matanat Ali Khan, Transport and Communication EDO Atique Baig, Salman Faridi and a National Highway Authority representative.
Speaking on the occasion, the DCO directed the authorities concerned to complete the field work within a week and call the steering committee meeting within three days.
It was informed at the meeting that the 33-km Lyari Expressway project stretching between Mauripur to Sohrab Goth was started in 2002 and 30 thousand affectees had so far been shifted to alternate locations. The 17-km long South Bond has been completed while the work on 5.5 km of North Bond was to be completed.
The work on Lyari Expressway had been stopped owing to unavailability of funds; however, it is now being resumed. Around 40 houses would be affected in this phase of construction and the families residing in these houses will get alternate plots in Taiser Town with an additional Rs 50,000 for construction of their houses.
