Protests by prisoners against the unavailability of necessities turned violent at the central jail in Sukkur on Tuesday resulting in 3 deaths, police said.
During rioting, five including three policemen were also injured.
A heated argument between officials and prisoners at central jail one escalated into a fight.
The prisoners snatched weapons from the officials and tried to hold them captive and also caused damage to the barracks.
This prompted the officials to conduct an operation after sealing off the jail. In order to control the rioting police used shelling on the prisoners.
