At least four inmates and a Frontier Constabulary official were killed as riots broke out in Sukkur Central Jail on Tuesday.
A protest against the lack of basic necessities inside the jail turned violent when prisoners snatched weapons from the officials and tried to hold them hostage.
The administration officials then sealed the jail and conducted a search operation against the trouble makers. Police also resorted to tear gas shelling to control the ransacking inmates.
The incident left three inmates and an FC official dead, while five others, including three policemen were also injured. The jail administration has called in additional police contingents to launch a massive operation in the jail.
