Reacting to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s move to form a grand opposition alliance and calls for mid-term elections in the country, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Babar Awan claimed on Tuesday that the PML-N would not be able to accomplish its aim of deceiving the people once again.
The PML-N could only make a “GT Road alliance”, but could not succeed in mustering the support required for the formation of a grand alliance, Awan told reporters here at the Supreme Court.
He said the nation was waiting to see when PML-N leader Nisar Ali Khan would apologise for his statement against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leadership, and when PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif would visit MQM Headquarters 90 and the graveyard of MQM’s fallen, wearing a Sindhi cap.
He said PML-N had told the court in a local bodies election case that the government of Punjab could not hold the local bodies election, and later it had also told the court that it could not hold elections in Rawalpindi.
He said if a party could not hold elections in its own province, how could it muster support for a grand alliance. He said credit went to the PPP for successfully holding elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), adding that it would also be able to complete the election in other parts of the valley according to the schedule announced by the AJK Election Commission.
“The people are well aware by now of the fact that when the PML-N talks about mid-term polls, it is indeed a joke and nothing more,” Awan said, adding that a party leader who feared defeat in the election should refrain from talking about mid-term elections.
