LHC adjourns petition seeking treason case against Musharraf

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday adjourned until first week of August, the hearing of a petition seeking registration of a treason case against former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf and issuing red warrants for his extradition through Interpol to initiate sedition proceedings against him under Article 6 of the constitution.
The court of Justice Azmat Saeed was told that Deputy Attorney General Ziaul Qamar Bhatti, who is representing the federation in the case, could not appear in court due to illness, therefore, the proceedings should be adjourned. On this, the judge deferred the hearing of the case.
Earlier, the court had sought reply from the federal government on the petition but the reply was not submitted despite several notices and reminders.
The petition was filed by Ilmddin Ghazi through his counsel AK Dogar. Another identical petition filed by Aziz Ahmed Awan is also pending against Musharraf in the LHC before the same judge.
Separately, Justice Azmat Saeed issued notice to the general manager and deputy superintendent railways on a petition filed by around 60 legal advisers to the department who are seeking release of their salaries.
On the petition filed by Arshad Virk and others, the court adjourned the hearing until July 8. The petitioners submitted that 20 of them have not been paid any amount for the last three years. The reply submitted in the court said that railways is facing a serious financial crunch and unable to pay the petitioners.
