Anti-smuggling squad of Lahore Model Customs Collectorates has seized around 103 luxury and non-luxury smuggled vehicles during the last four months of the fiscal year 2010-11. According to a news release, these vehicles, worth over Rs94 million, involve millions of rupees of chargeable duties and taxes.
These vehicles are of various brands, including Land Cruisers, Jaguars, Mercedes Benz, Ford, Honda and Mark X cars. Figures indicate that anti-smuggling squad of Lahore Model Customs Collectorate seized around 23 smuggled vehicles in March, 26 in April, 31 in May and 23 in June against a target of 100 vehicles, while around about 71 vehicles were impounded during the same period in the previous year.
In addition, anti-smuggling squad seized around Rs54.14 million worth smuggled or non-customs paid goods in 99 seizure cases. These items include medicines, imported silk cloth, soaps, shampoos, Indian jewelry, steel sheets in quails, auto parts, lubricants, Iranian plastic granules, spilt air-conditioners, TV sets, LCDs, amplifiers, etc.
