Sharmila seeks punishment to perpetrators of 5th July martial law

Information Secretary Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Women Wing Sindh Ms. Sharmila Faruqui has sought punishment to perpetrators of 5th July 1977 Martial Law as saying the democratic government of an elected and popular Prime Minister was toppled in the darkness of the night .
In a statement issued here on Monday, she said “5th July is not only darkest day of the history of Pakistan but the entire world as a dictator Gen. Zia-ul-Haq imposed Martial Law in the country on the behest of his foreign bosses”.
She recalled that 5th July Martial Law had introduced bad cultures of Kalashnikov, drug, sectarianism and corruption. She said counter revolution of 5th July 1977 only strengthened the theocracy which had created law and order situation being faced by the country till today.
She said that democratic government of a popular Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was toppled as he made the country atomic power and put efforts to form an Islamic block.
She said that remnants of dictator Gen. Zia once again had been engaged in hatching a conspiracy to overthrow PPP led democratic government in the name of grand opposition alliance, but all their nefarious designs against the President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani led government would be foiled. “Followers of Gen. Zia should avoid dreaming of midterm elections,” Ms. Faruqui said adding that the PPP led coalition government would complete its tenure.
She said that democracy is flourishing in the country with the support of the incumbent leadership of the Pakistani Military which had given several proofs of its loyalty with the democracy and for the rule of law and supremacy of the Parliament.
“No, doubt, present leadership of the armed forces has been fully extending their cooperation to the democratic rulers of the country to strengthen democracy and to put the country on the track of economic progress and prosperity,” she said. She said that chief minister of Punjab Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to London should remain confined to his claim of attracting foreign investment adding that it would be better if Mr. Shehbaz leaves conspiracy to weaken the democracy.
She said that all political parties would have to work on one agenda of supporting democracy if they were since with the country and the nation
