Many of the state owned corporations have become white elephants but none is more apparently in the ire of the people than Wapda for various reasons. It gains the attention of the people, sometimes in not a peaceful manner. Its incompetence is evident as it has not actually been able to solve the problem of power shortage even after more than five years of continuous load-shedding.The energy profile we rely on costs us more than what it should. The cheapest source of energy, the water, is evidently sidelined just for some shortsighted goals and puny profits of a few at the cost of many. Major power generation projects have been shelved or delayed as there are no funds available. Meanwhile, the government is busy playing see-saw with the people by increasing power tariff every few weeks. The only problem is only one end of this see-saw is up at all times.
