Pasban Pakistan staged a protest in connection with the United States (US) National Day, in front of the Lahore Press Club on Monday. Protestors chanted slogans against the American justice system and brutality on Dr Aafia Siddique. Pasban secretary and PRO Azam Minhas, Faisal Muneer, Wazir Khan, Dr Usman Bhatti, Latif Bhatti, Aasif Javaid and Malik Nasir addressed the protestors.
The Pasban leaders said it was a black day for Muslim countries, especially Pakistan as while the Americans celebrated, Aafia was held deprived of all happiness for the past nine years.
They said she was innocent but the American judiciary treated her in the most inhumane manner ever. The also criticised the Pakistani leadership on turning a blind eye towards Aafia’s case. They said killer Raymond Davis was leading a free and luxuries life but Aafia was miserable despite being only a suspect with no solid proofs against her. They also criticised the silence of non-governmental organisations and Human Rights Commission over the issue. They said, “Government is a silent spectator and the leadership has accepted all unjustified demands by the US. They have no concern for national interest.”
