The federal government has decided to replace police by the paramilitary forces to monitor the Pak-Afghan border areas in Chitral and Upper Dir, officials said on Sunday. Officials say the move came in the light of the recommendation forwarded by the provincial government after the recent raids into Pakistani territory by the militants based in Afghanistan to counter similar acts in the future.
Source said the federal government accepted the request and ordered the Interior Ministry to take necessary steps. According to the decision, the Levies and Frontier Corps would be deployed at the border areas of Upper Dir while the Chitral Scouts are expected to perform the duties in their district. On the other hand, Interior Ministry officials said the government would install mobile biometric system next week at the Torkham crossing, located along the Pak-Afghan.
The system would keep the data of all people entering into or coming from Afghanistan and help in overcoming terrorism and militancy.
