Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday directed the Ministry of Industries to keep a close eye on the production and marketing of sugar and ensure that sugar price stays affordable for the common man. Taking notice of a news-item that appeared in a section of the press regarding sugar cartels and the alleged plan to increase prices of sugar before Ramzan, the premier asked provincial governments to check for hoarding and black-marketing of sugar particularly before Ramazan.
Meanwhile, the prime minister also took notice of a news-item regarding the alleged delay in the 225MW Nandipur Power Project.
Gilani directed the concerned ministries to resolve pending matters and ensure that the work gets completed in time. The government, he said, is committed to reduce power shortages and minimise the electricity demand and supply gap in the shortest possible time.
