GCU PS Dept renames alumni association

Government College University (GCU) Political Science Department on Monday renamed its alumni association after Professor Syed Usman Malik, who was the first chairman of the department and founder of the alumni association. This happened during the annual dinner of the association, which was held at the varsity premises after a gap of 14 years. Former Lahore High Court (LHC) chief justice (CJ) Khawaja Sharif attended the occasion as chief guest while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Khawaja Saad Rafique, his wife PML-N Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Ghazala Saad Rafique, Unification Bloc leader Atta Maneka, Federal Zakat and Ushr Secretary Qazi Afaq Ahmed and renowned TV anchor Aftab Iqbal were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Sharif said that justice is virtue, which means that things should be where they belong. “Any path that leads to justice is deemed to be in harmony with Islamic law,” he said. He urged strengthening the alumni association through a media campaign and person-to-person contact. The former LHC CJ also recollected his fond memories as a student and later as a young struggling lawyer. He told the audience about his struggle at the sessions courts and advised people to believe in hard work and earn a legal income.
GCU Political Science Department Chairman Khalid Manzoor said that the department was proud on producing the largest number of bureaucrats in Pakistan’s history and the credit for the achievement goes to former faculty members. GCU Nazir Ahmed Music Society (NAMS) also performed on the occasion.
