Former Haj director’s remand extended

An accountability court on Monday extended the judicial remand of former director Haj Major (r) Rao Shakeel Ahmad, involved in piling up of illegal assets, till July 18. The accused was arrested on charges of maintaining various bank accounts through which he had made heavy transactions. The court, while extending the judicial remand, directed the National Accountability Bureau to submit a reference against the accused by the next date of hearing.
LBA hands police impostor: The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) on Monday handed over a man to Islam Pura Police who claimed to be the Punjab assistant advocate general and the legal advisor of Punjab governor. A local advocate had filed a written application in the Punjab Bar Council (PBC) submitting that advocate Safdar Ali, claiming to be the assistant advocate general Punjab and the legal advisor of Punjab governor, visited his office and tortured a female client. The applicant requested the PBC to take necessary action against Safdar. Upon scrutinizing the records, the PBC found out that Safdar was neither registered with the PBC nor he was a lawyer. The PBC then forwarded the matter to the LBA which detained Safdar and handed him over to police, registering a criminal case against him.
Accountability court releases two: An accountability court on Monday acquitted Muhammad Ashfaq Patwari and Khawar Saeed in a reference regarding accumulation of illegal assets worth millions of rupees. The reference was filed against Ashfaq alleging he, as a patwari in Ferozwala, with the active aid of Khawar, had made illegal assets worth millions of rupees. While giving benefit of a weak stance adopted by the National Accountability Bureau,
the court on Monday declared the accused innocent and acquitted them.
