Azad Jammu Kashmir’s (AJK) Election Commission has announced to hold polls of 2 seats of immigrants in Karachi on July 20, SAMAA reported on Monday. The Election Commission has announced that both seats’ elections will be held on same day (July 20) and polling will be held from 8.00am to 5.00pm without any break.
These both seats’ polls were cancelled by the AJK Election Commission over some security issues and the Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) strongly protested over postponement and later as a protest boycotted AJK elections and parted ways with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led coalition government.
The MQM alleged that the PPP was demanding one seat from Karachi but after its refusal the PPP postponed polls of both seat on false security reasons. The MQM-PPP rift over AJK immigrants’ Karachi seats mounted rapidly and within 48 hours, after elections, the MQM separated from the PPP in center, Sindh and the Senate simultaneously and its Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad also resigned from the post and left for Dubai on the same day.
Previously, these both seats were won by the Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and this time again it was sure of winning both seats back.
