A welcome ICC decision

The decision by the ICC to ensure that the national cricket boards of member countries, like PCB, are depoliticised and their appointments are made on merit is a welcome decision. It was unfortunate that even sports was considered a venue fit for cronies to exploit and allow them to indulge in activities that harm sports and deprive it of the spirit that is essential to motivate players to show results on playground.

For more than a decade now, PCB has been riddled with scandals that have brought shame to Pakistan. Failure to enforce discipline by holding errant players and board officials accountable has landed PCB’s in a mess. Political interference in appointments and team selection has harmed the game. What is embarrassing is that PCB failed to see this decision coming, although forewarned and should have instead taken measures to reform itself. There should be no place in PCB for men who have been involved in indiscipline, accused of corruption, or gross indiscipline. Men like Ijaz Butt are like bull in a china shop.
