Police claim all is well in New Karachi, Landhi

Routine life on Saturday remained suspended in some parts of New Karachi and Landhi towns where tension still lingered and peace could not be restored yet following a clash between the activists of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) and the Sunni Tehreek (ST), Pakistan Today has learnt.
Police sources said that reports regarding intermittent aerial firing had been received from both New Karachi and Landhi towns where shops and markets were observed to have been closed, whereas heavy contingents of law enforcers were deployed to maintain the law and order situation.
While no causalities were reported from the two towns, fear prevailed in both New Karachi and Landhi, compelling the locals to remain confined to their houses, the police sources added.
On the other hand, New Karachi Industrial Area Station House Officer Aamir Khan claimed that episodes of crossfire between the activists of the ASWJ and the ST had decreased, and that shops and markets in the town had started reopening.
Similarly, Landhi Town Police Officer Haseeb Afzal Baig alleged that normalcy had returned to the town after the shootout between the activists of the ASWJ and the ST. Roads have been opened for vehicular traffic and routine life is also returning to normal in the town, he added.
